Racial Disparities In Repeat Admissions For Ischemic Stroke Patients < 65 years Of Age
Stroke Reports Friday, October 19th, 2012Abstracts of the American Society of Hypertension, Inc.: May 19 – 22, 2012
Our study assessed racial disparities and risk-factors associated with the one-year risk of recurrent stroke in South Carolina (SC).
Methods:
The SC hospital discharge database was employed to identify individuals with a primary diagnosis of Ischemic stroke (ICD9 433, 434, and 436) who were at least 45 years of age for the study period 1996–2009. Patients were classified as single stroke or repeat stroke based on the number of Ischemic stroke hospitalizations within 1 year. Comorbidities based on secondary diagnosis at discharge were compared between African Americans and Caucasians stratified by age 45–64 and >=65 years using mixed effects logistic regression. Multivariable Cox-proportional hazard models were used to assess risk of recurrent stroke. Read more
